Week 4: Web Interface Design

You will find screenshots of some of my progress so far, down below from last week with my course project as well as our lab assignment progress through last week.

After finishing the readings for this week, I can see that we are going to be moving right along.  Code looks like it is going to start getting a bit more complicated/detailed.  I am sure once I get into the assignment it will be just fine though.

I have enjoyed the work and the progress I have made in this class.  It is very interesting and fun to learn how to design the web pages as we have so far.  Last week took a major turn in learning CSS and implement CSS stylesheets to design and modify the web pages appearance.  I did a lot of playing with the code and refreshing it in the web page to see how it effected the appearance.  That is one thing I am excited about learning this week with the formulas provided in the reading that allows us to change formatting attributes such as font from pixel to percentage or em.  I mainly used percentages for my formatting sizes last week because I wanted my site to be designed in a way that would adjust automatically to the different devices it could be accessed through, but I was more just playing with it until it looked right.  Now we have formulas to generate a more specific determination instead of just guessing and playing with it which is going to most helpful and a major time saver.

This is a screenshot of my home page for my course project which I chose to do about fitness and eating habits.  Fitness is a passion of mine that I don't get to participate in as much, but I chose to my site as an informational aspect with a couple of different styles of fitness, as well as a balanced and low-carb eating habits/dietary.  Since I have not included any content really to my pages, I have only included my home page which is the baseline for the entire site.

Here are a few screenshots from our Web Site that we created about CIS Major and a couple of the careers in this field for last weeks lab assignment.

  1. The screenshots look great. Looks like you really have the formatting down. I think it will be interesting to see how the code from this week expands on it all. I have not used percentages for sizes yet, only px. It makes sense to use percents though since people access websites from so many different devices. Good luck going forward. Seems like you are really on track.

  2. Jamie, Your project and Labs look really good. You make a good point about using percentages for the sizes so they will automatically adjust per visitor. I to make adjustments to my html and CSS and then check to see how it looks. Without knowing it by heart it is hard know exactly how the changes will look util you see them. I look forward to your progress.

  3. Jamie, you seem to really have a grasp on formatting and CSS. Your project and Labs look good. You are correct about the code looks like it is going to start getting a bit more complicated/detailed. I originally wasn’t watching the videos, but I find that they are helpful as we get more into the course. Look forward to seeing the remainder of your work.
